Keith Kravitz' Grand Canyon Tours
This Week's Hot Tours...
Hey it's Keith Kravitz and here's a list of what's hot when it comes to Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas & South Rim...
Champagne Picnic
The most incredible (and audacious) thing you can do at the Grand Canyon? Land on the floor, deplane, and partake in a Champagne picnic. And, yes, folks, it's only available from Las Vegas because the National Park Service has banned helicopters from landing on the bottom at the South Rim. The experience at the base is unique: more than 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon each year and only .05 percent get to the bottom. So if you go for it, you'll be part of a very unique club. Air-Only Thriller
Only got a day or two to spare in Vegas and want to do the Canyon? Take the basic no-landing tour. This all-air trip covers all the bases including Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Colorado River and the Canyon. Total tour time is about 3.5 hours and that includes picking you up and dropping you off at your hotel. This flight leaves throughout the day, so you can pick a time that works for you if you have a meeting, a show or a dinner reservation set for afterward. Personally, I prefer the morning flights as they come with better visibility and smoother air. Learn More...
Skywalk Options
The Glass Bridge...you've heard about it and seen the pictures and now is the time to step up to the plate and do it. But which one, right? There are three options, ranging from basic to deluxe. There's even a trip that includes it as part of its itinerary to go from the top to the bottom and back. Be prepared for incredible views because the glass bridge lets you walk some 70 feet over the edge until you are standing 4,000 feet over the bottom. I recommend spending time on the northern and central part of the platform as that's where the best sites are to be seen. Read more...
Bottom & Top!
Do you want to see and do it all in one day? Have I got the tour for you. This particular package starts with a flight over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Then it descends into the Canyon and follows the winding path of the majestic Colorado River. Deplane at the bottom and now it's time to walk 100 yards to the river's bank and transfer to a boat and cruise the river. Back on dry land, you'll buckle up and chopper up to the top and do the Grand Canyon Skywalk. This tour includes a snack pack, and I recommend you take time to eat it at Guano Point, which in my opinion is one of the most interesting places on the West Rim. Learn more...
Vegas, South Rim Plane
It's a little-known fact that helicopters are NOT able to fly to the South Rim. Why? Because it's too far (the South Rim is 277 miles from Vegas). What are you options? Take the direct airplane flight. The flight takes just 60 minutes and comes with 2-hours of ground time in the Park. Unfortunately, you can't request a front seat in the helicopter segment of the tour but you can request window seats on the airplane. Tour comes with lunch and I'll even email you a South Rim Guide and Map once you book the tour and send me your reservation number. Prices are fixed and final and include all taxes and fees. My Top 3 South Rim Options
The South Rim, located in northern Arizona, sits about 3.5 hours from Phoenix, 2 hours from Sedona and 60 minutes from Flagstaff. Tours here are no-landing only. In other words, there are NO tours that fly below the rim and land - you have to go to Vegas for that. Thus options here range from a 50-minute deluxe flyover to a 30-minute helicopter & Jeep combo. I personally recommend the 50-minute because you'll see up to 75 percent of the Park. However, I understand everyone has different needs and so I put together a list of my Top 3 South Rim helicopter trips. Learn more...
Weight Tax?
Been getting a lot of questions asking if they weigh too much to take a heli tour. Folks, there is no weight limit. But there is a weight surcharge and it's tacked on if you weigh more than 299 pounds. This only applies to Las Vegas departures. If you do a South Rim tour, there is no limit and there is no surcharge. I also get a lot of inquiries about how discreet the weigh-in is. Very. The digital scales are built into a tile in front of each check-in station and the only people who see the meter is the check-in person so your privacy is guaranteed. Read more...
