Keith Kravitz' Grand Canyon Tours
This Week's Hot Tours...
Hey it's Keith Kravitz and here's a list of what's hot when it comes to Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas & South Rim...
4-in-1 Mega Tour
No other tour does more than the 4/1 when it comes to experiencing Grand Canyon. It starts with a 4,000-foot descent to the bottom. You deplane at the base and walk to the Colorado River. There you'll board a pontoon boat and cruise the mighty beast before making your ascent by helicopter to the top. Then it's off to the Skywalk and some incredible West Rim sightseeing. If you're looking to "do it all," this is the package for you. Read more...
Champagne Picnic (3x Options)
I think one of the coolest things one can do in this lifetime is to land on the bottom of the Canyon and sip "bubbles." In a way, it's audacious, and it's exactly the reason I'm so drawn to the picnic tours. There you are under a ramada popping bottles and eating hors d'oeuvres on top of some of the oldest exposed rock on the Planet as the famous Colorado River flows by. Photos from this location are awesome, especially as you and only a small percentage of others ever make it to the base. Learn more...
South Rim by Plane from L.V.
Truth of the matter is that helicopters don't fly from Vegas to the South Rim. It's simply too far. To get to the South, you have to take a direct 60-minute airplane flight. Which is great when you consider it takes up to 5.5 hours to drive there in a rental car. The view en route is terrific as you fly over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam to get to the South before landing at Grand Canyon National Park Airport. Here you deplane and do a superb 30-min helicopter tour before embarking on a 2-hour ground excursion inside the Park. Read more...
50-Minute South Rim
What if I told you that you could see 75 percent of the Grand Canyon in under an hour? Scoff? Laugh? Shake your head? Well it's true and ONLY true if you take the South Rim deluxe air tour. It goes from South Rim to East Rim then North Rim and back before landing. It's a remarkable trip that's even better considering you're doing it on a new EcoStar 130 helicopter. These "birds" are decked out with a 180-degree windshield and stadium-style seats so everyone gets a view that will knock their socks off. Learn more...
RSVP, Please
OK, it's an unheralded fact that helicopter tours are limited and sell out quick. Despite that, good folks insist on waiting until the last minute before they book. Most think they'll catch a last-minute deal that they can boast about on Facebook. But the truth is that by waiting you'll most certainly pay more -- a lot more. Or worse, the flight you want is all of sudden sold out. Or morning departure times are unavailable (these, by the way, are the one's you want). This can all be avoided by booking in advance. Rule of thumb is try to book a week ahead of time. Or even more in advance if you want a Skywalk or 4/1 or deluxe tour. Read more...
Skywalk (3x Options)
Looking for thrills? Try doing the Skywalk. You'll get to walk 70+ feet over the edge. Now stop at the farthest point. Look beneath your feet. Below some 4,000 feet is the bottom of the Canyon. Look out. Due east is Eagle Point. Now turn head north and you'll see Guano Point and the Colorado River. Those who do the Skywalk are in for a real treat. Equally important is the fact that there are 3 different helicopter tours that include the glass bridge. My personal favorite is the deluxe version, which lets you fly on the new EcoStar 130 chopper and includes an extended tour over the Vegas Strip. Read more...
Flyover - Cheapest Option
This tour takes off daily from the Vegas metro area. It goes over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the Canyon (note: all Vegas follow this same flight path) before entering Canyon airspace. This tour is the least-expensive option available and comes with free hotel transfers to every major resort on the Las Vegas Strip. It's definitely the one to consider if you have limited time and, more importantly, a limited budget. I do recommend taking it in the morning and at sunset for best views. Remember that times listed are departure times, not pick up times, which are included along with pick up location on your confirmation letter. Learn more...
Weight Limit?
I put this topic back into the newsletter because there's a bit of confusion about weight and if there's a limit. Short answer is "no," there is no maximum. You can weigh as much as you like and you'll be able to take any helicopter tour you like. But if you exceed a certain weight, you'll be required to pay a surcharge, which is reasonable because you'll be getting two seats for the price of one (relatedly, some operators will charge you for two tickets and that's where you'll want to read the fine print). The whole weight issue will pop up as you go through online check out. Don't sweat it. You don't pay the surcharge then. You pay it at check in. Learn more...
