I'd be remiss if I didn't bring your attention to the Vegas' sunset bottom-landing tour. During summer, this tour is sold out. If you didn't book it months in advance, you'd be out of luck. Winter is different. We still have seats, and I'd go so far as to say to RSVP the sunset one-week prior to your departure date. Closer to flight
time is pushing it.
WEIGHT SURCHARGE
I need to address this because the my inbox is full of requests asking for explanations. The bottom line: If you weigh more than 300 pounds and you want to do a helicopter tour, the surcharge is USD $200. For airplanes, it's $100. More information here...
LAS VEGAS
Since it's summer it would be rude of me not to reference our sunset tour. This trip departs once a day and goes over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Colorado River and the Canyon before settling on the bottom. There's plenty of time to enjoy a Champagne picnic before re-boarding and heading back to Vegas at dusk as the Strip's neon lights turn on. I recommend you RSVP this tour here...
If you're on a budget, I strongly suggest you consider the air-only tour. It doesn't land but it covers everything between Vegas and the Canyon including Hoover Dam. FRONT SEATS
Helicopters only hold 6 people - three in the back and three in the front including pilot. Thus there are only two front seats for travelers. Front seats are never guaranteed. In other words, you can't reserve them. But you can request a front seat upgrade. The reason why front seats can't be reserved is that nobody knows who the other passengers are on your flight until check in. There's a few more details and this article explains them well.
SOUTH RIM
Lots of families come up to the South Rim during summer. That means in most cases the most in-expensive option is in high demand. In this case, it's the 30-minute air-only tour. This flight takes off from the Grand Canyon National Park Airport and goes from South Rim to North Rim and back. The highlight is the Dragoon Corridor, which is the widest, deepest section of the Park. Get more details here...
